CULTURALLY & LINGUISTICALLY RESPONSIVE
​TEACHING & LEARNING

The use of cultural knowledge, prior experiences, frames of reference, and performance styles of ethnically diverse students to make learning encounters more relevant to and effective for them. It teaches to and through the strengths of students. It is culturally validating and affirming. (Gay, 2004)

This is an overview of my entire year for when I was a 6th grade ELA teacher. This could be easily adapted to any grade level!
Social Justice Vocabulary Words
This document provides Definitions, Synonyms, Examples, Nonexamples of Social Justice Vocabulary Words. I recommend explicitly teaching one of these words per day through the system I described in Document #1.
